Some People Are Full of Sh...Beans

Art is therapy to me. Instead of telling someone they are full of ##it I will draw it. This is for all those people you know who tell you one thing then go do another. It doesn't make them bad, just full of ##it.

Rather than upset any delicate art lovers out there I decided to put a little sticker on it. An idea I nabbed from someone I met at the Gloucester Paint Jam a few weeks ago and has since become one of my favourite artists, you should check out Skeleton Cardboard.

I've added a few 'in progress' shots cus I know you guys like them. Share, like and Tweet if you can, I'd really appreciate it and if you haven't already please sign up for my newsletter.

I knew what I wanted to say but at this stage didnt know what I was going to draw (I knew it was going to be a worm just not sure which sort or where).
Korp Art
Drawing behind the text was tricky but worthwile.
Picture
I usually do a small dot in the eyes to show a reflection but this time I thought I'd add a little more. Notice the subtle shading around the mouth.

A close up shot of the left eye that gives you a good look at the detail in the left ear/feather.

New Work: I Will Never Leave You

I've been working hard this weekend to get a big canvas finished. The inspiration for this canvas is from Hebrews 13:5 which reads...

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”

Now I'm not believer but I do enjoy adding a religious context to my work and the quote above stood out to me which is why I decided to use it. Read on for the process I went through to create this new piece of art and to understand more about what it means to me.

Usually my work involves cynical messages in the background however a friend convinced me to do something positive and maybe use bible text. With the backgrounds I do I start with a light grey and write large letters, these letters slowly get darker and smaller. Starting with the big letters this seemed the most obvious way to start.
Picture
As the text gets smaller and darker I used quotes from the Old Testament. I like to be messy at this stage making sure there are drips and splashes of paint. This layer of the background is from Isaiah 48:9-11.

The final layer of the background is from the New Testament Hebrews 13:5-6. This was all done with emulsion, acrylic paint and lots of water. Finished with a little splatter of grey and signal red from my Belton Molotow spraycans.

Now I've got my backgrounds sorted I sketch out a little worm on a post it note to make sure I get the balance of the piece right. I want the reds in the artwork to be strong so I sketch up the worm on a large sheet of card and get the blade out.

The stencil is cut and fits the canvas perfectly so I take it outside to spray. Detail is added below using Posca markers.
I'm pleased with how it's turned out. The smooth worm and the deep reds add a nice high quality finish.
Now available in the Korp store.

Featherhead Korpworms

Over the years the Korpworms have mutated several times, most notably when they grew arms. This year they have started growing feathers from their heads. Are they ears or just plumage to distract you from their pitted faces and dark eyes?

These two have continued my recent preference to draw on long canvases so I can really show off the feathers. Both are now available in the shop.

Most of the markings come in threes which is very intentional.
