The Overground Arts Jam is my hometown jam. I love it because I know so many of the people that visit throughout the day which makes it a very sociable jam. This years jam was meant to be a small affair with efforts being put into Overground 2015 but the turnout was good and the quality was high. I used this jam as an opportunity to experiment with a different background. A stencil I cut a few years ago that had never been sprayed before was repeated multiple times with one of my more detailed worms in the foreground. Let me know what you think. Please comment, share and tweet if you like this. Your support spreading the word is appreciated. One of the things with painting at a live arts jam is the number of people that are taking your photograph. I was talking to a photographer a few weeks ago at the Gloucester Jam who told me that they can sometimes feel quite intrusive when they are taking your photo so the best thing you can do is ignore them and carry on with your work. At Overground it turns out that this is easier said than done because about halfway through the day I notice a guy is standing behind me taking a photo. I can handle this, nothing out of the ordinary, but then he slowly starts to shuffle round in a circle while taking lots more photographs and it gets quite distracting because I'm now thinking this guy is nuts and doesnt really know how to use a camera. Today I saw the resulting photograph...and it was planet Korp. Moral of the story is to trust the togs, they know what they're doing.
Big thanks go to Daren Grant for the picture above from Overground 2014 and all the other photographers I've met over the years who have generously found my work interesting enough to capture on film...well on SD cards. The Overground Arts Jam is one of my favourite art jams. It's in my hometown of Peterborough and it's at a great venue, The Green Backyard. What made this years event particularly symbolic is that the Green Backyard is under threat fom the city council. Despite being used by schools, people with learning disabilities, people with mental health problems, single parents, the elderly, the unemployed and many other community groups this unique urban greenspace is potentially going to be closed down. Do me a favour, jump over to the petition site and put your name down in support #SAVEGBY... ...and when you've done that take a look at my pictues fom the day. Most of which were taken by my 9 year old. Had a great time painting with some of Peterboroughs leading street artists at the 2012 Willow Festival. Here are some of the shots from the day.
Big thanks to The Willow Festival organisers and Blok Collective and Overground Arts for supplying the boards. Take a look at the new Overground site created by Free Thinking Design. This site is to promote Peterborough's live arts jam on the 16th July at the Green Backyard. Best bit is I have my own page... They're still looking for volunteers and artists, but be quick.
