This summer Channel 4 is celebrating British street culture with some quality new programmes dedicated to the different elements of street-level genius.
Street art and graffiti is going to be represented by the TV premiere of Exit Through the Gift Shop and a new documentary focusing on the UK scene which will include writers like Robbo. Channel 4 wants to find new talent too, to help promote Street Summer across the UK in the only way which makes sense; with massive pieces! This is where I need you. Please vote Korp after the jump. A few weeks ago I was asked if I'd donate some work to a Help for Heroes auction being held in Peterbough. Obviously I said yes but I didn't have anything suitable so I had to do something new. After much research on the internet I found the perfect image and cut out a 1 layer stencil.
The finished piece had a grey background with a Union Flag painted using transparent black and it ended up raising £165 for the charity. I decided to title my 'Free Art Good Friday' pieces Forsaken. I did a bespoke version for a couple of friends who got it framed.
Here is a quick photo of the art that I'm giving away this Easter. It's 7 a layer stencil in Signal Red, Golden Yellow and Signal Black using thin coats of spraypaint to build up the layers. I've done 2 so far but I'll keep painting more until the stencils fall apart. Clues to where these will be hidden around Peterborough will be posted on my Facebook fan page on Friday.
It's been a month since my last update, I'm slacking. It's not because nothings happened I've just struggled to find the time to get on-line and write about it. So here goes...a month in a minute: A few weeks back I finished cutting a couple of portraits including my first pet portrait. I haven't got any pics of the pet portrait yet but here is Miriam's stencil...it's 20cm x 20cm and multi-layer (as usual). Fingers crossed I'll get them both painted this weekend. Some agency came up with a logo to re-brand the city which I found a little premature so I got to work adjusting it to fit with what Peterborough has been like for me over the past 30 years or so. This is myPeterborough...drugs, knife crime and prostitution have always been just around the corner from wherever I have lived until recently. I'm not saying it isn't a nice city because it is...I just don't like some agency re-branding the place like it'll fix everything. Let me know what you think, these will probably end up on Korporate t-shirts soon. I've got a Facebook fan page and to drum up the numbers I said I'd give away a free portrait when I got to 100 likes. The winner was Rich and here is his portrait. I've got so much to do but the studio has become a right mess over the winter so I think I'll be spending the next couple of weeks in there. Take a look at what I have to contend with...and this was after a couple of hours work. With any luck I'll be back on-line a bit more regular over the coming weeks with updates on The Peterborough Festival, Overground 2011 and fingers crossed Upfest. Until then see ya...
This is my little girly Molly. A multi layer stencil on a 20cm x 20cm canvas. Want your own? Get in touch...
They've been a long time coming but I finally finished the Flowers portraits last weekend. Not my usual multi layer style because I wanted to go for a friendly propaganda look but using a little Japanese influence. Each portrait was just two layers and had to be hand cut twice, once for the big portraits and once for the postcard sized versions. This is a multi layer stencil portrait I did of Plura Bella a few weeks ago. The cutting took ages but the spraying only took 30 minutes. Here is that 30 minutes condensed into 4 and a half with a track called Keep You Safe by Orison over the top of it... |
